Autumn is here. This season brings about a lot of changes in our lives – not only weather changes, but also changes in our daily lives such as starting school and upcoming holidays. What better time than now to greet the autumn with ways to help keep you and your children safe and healthy!
In Chinese medicine, autumn correlates with the respiratory system, which dominates breathing, body fluids, metabolism, and immunity. Windy and dry weather in autumn affects our body in so many ways with a great focus on our breathing and overall respiratory system. The most common conditions we see in the autumn tend to be colds and flu, asthma, seasonal allergies, and skin disorders.
Follow these 5 simple tips for good health in autumn:
1. Stay hydrated.
Making sure to drink enough water every day. Try to avoid too much caffeine and sodas. Water at room temperature is the best for our bodies.
2. Eat Asian pears
Asian pears or cooked pears provide moisture internally. This is a wonderful and tasty way to moisten skin and dry throat.
3. Drink Chrysanthemum green tea
Chrysanthemum green tea is good for relaxation, immunity, and itchy eyes.
4. Be Prepared
Be prepared for cold weather and sudden weather changes. Always have extra layers handy. Bring a jacket or coat with you when you are out and about this time of year! It is also a good idea to keep your neck covered to avoid cool breezes down your neck and back.
5. Remember to wash your hands
Wash your hands! You hear it over and over, but it is true. This is such an easy way to prevent the spread of germs. Hand sanitizers work well when you don’t have access to soap and water. When you do wash your hands, remember to be thorough and wash for at least 20-30 seconds.
Welcome to this lovely time of year, enjoy the autumn foliage, and stay healthy!
